American (?) children's book about several children who go on a moral adventure (i.e. experience various trials/tribulations along the way) after leaving their kingdom. Christian over/undertones.

  • When my dad had a stroke everyone was panicked except me. My brother was away at sea at the time so we couldn’t reach him to let him know what happened so for a few weeks it was just my sister in law and I and our kids. She was pregnant at the time so mostly it was on me.

  • Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm sorry your dad experienced a stroke, but glad to hear that he has been well since then.

  • I try to keep my words to a minimum when I'm doing this kind of listening. Stuff like mmhmm, wow, really? and the like.

    1608551559

  • You are so right - it is very easy for me to deal with strangers because I owe them nothing, vs. the duty I feel to family to behave in a certain societally expected way.

  • Hello ! First of all, thank you for your concern. Indeed, as you said, the ransack is probably a fox or a weasel, and it was food for him/her and their babies ! But I understand the need to help. I would suggest putting a shallow bowl of water near the nest, if the mother needs it, as well as some appropriate food. But for the rest, it's the course of nature. Just be sure it wasn't humans who ransacked, because in that case, hunt them down. Many thanks, and update us on (hopefully) the babies !

  • Thank you so much for your response. What food would you advise? We knew that she was going off for food before, but decided against putting anything down in case that attracted a predator to her. We do have some bird seed, but I don't know if that's safe for a pheasant. It is also raining quite heavily atm, so is that OK for water, or do you think we should still put down a bowl? As you say, we don't want to spook or worry her anymore than she's already been through.

    1588164248

  • Pheasants are mostly insectivores, but if you don't have insects or worms in your cupboards, you can put some of the bird seed, if it's not good for her she won't eat it anyway. Just place the two bowls a few feet away from the nest so she'll see she has things in case of need, but not too close to be harmful to her.

  • Thank you so much for your comments; I think we both know that there is little we can do in the long run, but it's very reassuring to hear it from someone else. I will let my partner know and we will find some bowls for the food and the seed.

  • It is something related with the location of the seller and the location of the web page they listed their items (ebay.com, ebay.co.uk, ebay.au etc) and the local laws that require certain information to be displayed.

  • Thank you for replying, but I'm viewing on .co.uk and the individuals have their locations listed as UK places too...

  • Hej CR,

  • Thank you ever so much for clarifying that it will work. I think I'll make some test sheets and do a little experiment myself, so that I get a bit more familiar with Power Query and then come back if I run into any issues.

  • While I agree the drive is worth it regardless of time of year, late October will likely have near empty trees up in the Whites, so don't be bummed if the foliage isn't up to par.

    1535991417

  • Thank you, I had a look into Connecticut and this seems perfect - I've checked out their 2017 maps and if things follow a similar trend, everything seems on track for us to see some colours for when we want to do this trip. I think we'll head South :)

  • Thank you for your correction! I was looking at the Richmond-Millbrae as from the BART map it didn't look like the Antioch line served South San Francisco/Colma. Looking again though, I see the teensy line that indicates a station does extend across to the Antioch line.

  • Many thanks for the detailed comment - we've looked into one way flights (i.e. flying into somewhere and then out of somewhere else) and they are muuuch more expensive than a round trip, so that was why we figured we'd fly into Boston (nearer to our home country), then take internal flights/drive once we're in the US to work our way back round.

    1505754988

  • Ah, whoops, wasn't clear there. I was thinking internally, from Boston to SF, rather than to LA. Makes the routing a little easier. :)

    1505756578

  • Yes, definitely! I would've loved to have seen the House on the Rock in WI, and also visited some of the southern states, but there just isn't enough time :(

  • Hi yes, this sounds right!! I think the US thoughts I was having come from its links to 'The Pilgrim's Progress' by John Bunyan.

  • Hmmm. I'll throw out some ideas.

  • Thanks for the reply, but I'm afraid it was none of those! It was just one story (not a compilation) and although I think there were (might?) have been some illustrations, they were all in black and white, pen and ink style.
